Everything You Need to Know About Clip-In Hair Extensions
If you want gorgeous flowing locks with plenty of body for a night out, a special occasion, or even for every day use and you don’t want to commit to hair extensions, clip-in extensions are a great option. They are quick and easy to put in and remove, and they’re also a budget-friendly option.
How to fit clip-in extensions
Once you’ve had a bit of practice, fitting clip-in extensions is easy. Start by sectioning your hair off and clip the rest of the hair out of the way. It’s a good idea to backcomb the section of hair you’re working with and spray it with hairspray to give the clips a better grip. When you clip the hair in, make sure all of the clips are secure. Use a mirror to check the back of your head for any bumps or visible clips.
The pros and cons of clip-in extensions
The pros
• They’re very easy to fit and remove
• You can use clip-in extensions to add some colour or try a different style without the commitment
• They’re an affordable option compared to other types of hair extensions
The cons
• Wearing clip-in extensions every day can stress the hair and cause hair thinning and loss
• You can’t sleep in them, they must be removed before bed
How to look after clip-in hair extensions
Clip-in hair extensions made from human hair tend to last longer than synthetic ones, but you have to look after them. Here are a few tips:
- Wash your extensions with a gentle shampoo after a few uses. Gently squeeze the shampoo through the hair
- When washing them, allow the water to flow down the hair, and don’t scrunch the hair at all
- Squeeze any excess water out and pat the hair dry with a towel
- Use a hair extension brush or wide tooth comb to detangle them from the ends, working upwards
- It’s best to let your clip-in extensions air dry, but you can use a hair dryer on a low setting
